hodesh tov – kislev 5774

IMG_6499The month of Kislev brings the eight day holiday of Hanukkah. Undoubtedly, it is one of the more exciting  periods of time on the Jewish calendar. I sometimes dream about what we would do in camp if Hanukkah was celebrated in the summer. For sure, that would be a spectacular week!

This year the month of Kislev brings the end to the year-long celebration of our 50th anniversary. The official last event is the Annual Fund Dinner. Marking 50 years has given me the opportunity to reflect on the past with its pioneering spirit and dwell on the energy that is propelling us into the future. With these thoughts in mind, I want to ask you two questions.

First, what makes Ramah, Ramah?  My answer is often the people. Successfully bringing together 300 hard-working and dedicated staff members challenges us every summer. By definition younger staff come for short periods of time – one, two or three summers – and then move on in their lives. We need you, our parent body, to help recruit wonderful, dynamic and creative young adults who can serve as role-models in the position of bunk counselor or specialist in camp. Interested staff should contact us at staff@ramahberkshires.org. Thank you.

My second question is about the dinner to be held on December 8th at 4:30 PM at the Shelter Rock JC in Roslyn, New York.  Are you planning to join the festivities?  This year’s sole honoree is Rob Hirsch whom many of you know. Rob’s Herculean efforts, as president for five years, brought camp to the highest level of accomplishment. Join us in recognizing Rob and his merits while celebrating 50 amazing summers.

Wishing all of you a special Hanukkah with family and friends.

Rabbi Paul Resnick
